What is VoIP?

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), also known as IP telephony, is a way to send and receive voice calls over the internet. VoIP converts analog voice signals into digital data packets that can be transmitted over IP networks. This enables you to make and receive phone calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a traditional telephone line.

In case of emergency

Our BeTalk service requires a working BeFibre broadband connection and electricity to power the phone adapter. If there is a broadband failure or power cut, your BeTalk service will not work. In case of an emergency, you must always have another means of making calls such as a mobile phone, to contact Emergency Services.
If you have a healthcare, medical, or any landline connected alarm, you will need to check with your alarm provider that it will work with VoIP.

What kind of equipment do I need?

Setting up your BeTalk fibre powered phoneline is simple. We supply our BeTalk phone adapter*** which plugs into your BeFibre router and the mains, and all you need is your home phone and in some cases a BT to RJ11 adapter. No technical expertise required. The BeTalk phone adapter will work with any home phone, future proofing your home phone service.

Can I bring my existing number?

In most cases yes, that’s no problem at all and free of charge. All we need is the number you’d like to port and some details, and the process takes about 12 days to complete. For those 12 days you’d have a temporary BeTalk number so you can still use the BeTalk service.

Can I choose my new BeTalk number?

That’s not possible, Your new BeTalk number will be assigned when we setup your new BeTalk fibre powered phoneline.

What if I change my mind?

That’s no problem at all, BeTalk is also covered by our 30 day BeGuarantee, just call our Customer Support team on 0330 088 83 83 if you have any questions at all.

*Subject to fair usage policy. BeTalk is powered by Gamma Communications. Your BeTalk plan does not include international or premium-rate numbers (numbers starting with 0843, 0844, 0845, 0870, 0871, 0872, 0873, 09). This means you won’t be able call these numbers from your phone 

**Want to keep your current phone number? We can bring your number from most landline providers, just let us know you want to bring it and who your current provider is and we’ll take care of the rest. During the porting process, or if we can’t port your number, you’ll get a brand new BeTalk number so you’ll be able to use your BeTalk service straight away. Phone porting takes roughly 12 working days from the date your BeTalk service is setup by us. When porting is complete, we’ll contact you via email. While the port is in progress, please don’t cancel with your current provider before we have notified you; otherwise, you will lose your original number.  

You can use your BeTalk service for calls to all UK landline and mobile numbers, all UK Emergency Services and UK Freephone numbers. Please note that your BeTalk service depends on a working broadband connection and will not work in the event of a power or network outage – another method, such as a mobile phone, must be used in an emergency. 

***The BeTalk phone adapter is leased to the customer and remains the property of BeFibre
