What is a good download speed for internet use?

We are all too familiar with the struggles of slow internet connection. Whether you’re just trying to open an attachment from a colleague or stream the latest movies on Netflix, it’s so frustrating when your device constantly puts you on hold whilst it sorts itself out, or worse yet, it quits halfway through.

This happens when your download speed simply isn’t good enough. If you’re not clued up on the difference between upload and download speed, you can catch up with our recent blog and find out why it’s important to look out for the Mbps your provider promises.

What is the best download speed for home internet?

At least 25 Mbps is considered ‘good’ for most internet activities. But this will depend on how many devices are connected to your broadband and are in use at the same time, and what you’re using the internet for.

For example, if you have five people in your household using the internet simultaneously and your download speed is 25 Mbps, you’re going to be stuck with roughly 5 Mbps each. This really isn’t a lot if you’re wanting to game in 4K or stream in Ultra HD.

That’s why we offer different broadband package options with a variety of speeds to suit your needs.

How can I test my internet speed?

If you suspect your download speed is slacking, you can easily test it with free online tools.

You can also head over to our speed tester to see how much time you could save by switching to BeFibre’s full fibre broadband. Our customers enjoy doing the things they love with no buffering or interruptions.

What can I do if my broadband speed isn’t what it should be?

There are several things you can do to boost your internet speed, such as moving your router to a central location and disconnecting unused devices. But if you have tried everything and you’re still banging your head against the wall, then it’s safe to say it’s time to upgrade your broadband.

There isn’t a one–size–fits–all package – no matter what your current provider tells you – but that’s why we offer our customers a range of products that suit their internet needs.

The higher the speed, the better your internet activity will be. So our absolute minimum speed starts at 150 Mbps with our classic package, 500 Mbps for families, 720 Mbps with our Advantage offer and for the serious gamers out there, we promise 900 Mbps to ensure you’re never disappointed.

If this doesn’t reel you in, we’re also offering the first 3 months half price AND free installation worth £250. Now that’s a deal worth taking.

All references to how many times faster our broadband service is, depend on you being able to access ‘superfast’ type broadband services of 70Mbps (or less) and selecting one of our packages at the advertised speed. Speeds shown may be affected based on the placement of the router in your property or the device you are using.
