1. Google.com

It’s no surprise that the world’s biggest search engine takes the number one spot, with 86 billion visits in December 2022. People spend an average of 10 minutes on the website, and our friends in the US are the top searchers, followed by India, Brazil and then, the UK.

The top category was video games, consoles and categories – as the gaming industry expands its reach worldwide – whilst computers and electronics, social media and programming and developer software also ranked highly.

2. Youtube.com

Next up, the video streaming giant Youtube – which is also owned by Google for those who didn’t know – takes second place with 34.6 billion visits last month. The average duration spent on the website was 19 minutes 51 seconds. And again, gaming was the top category, whilst news was the top topic. The largest age group of visitors are 25-34-year-olds.

3. Facebook.com

We all knew this was going to make the rankings, the biggest social media website in the world. It received 18.1 billion visits in December 2022, which was up 2.16% from the previous month.

With the easy-to-scan and scroll interface, users spend an average of just 9 minutes on Facebook, and the US, Vietnam and Poland were the top countries visiting the site.

4. Twitter.com

The blue bird takes fourth place on the list, with 6.9 billion visits. Twitter has increasingly become a website where people can find news and discussion about current affairs, that’s why 20% of its referral traffic comes from news and media publishers.

Last month, more males visited the site than females, with an audience split of 67% and 33% and are most popular with 25-34-year-olds.

5. Instagram.com

The picture-posting giant ranks 5th worldwide, with 6.3 billion visits at the end of last year. People jumped to an average of 10.77 pages whilst on the website and spent a mere 7 minutes and 44 seconds catching up on the latest content.

It also gets most of its traffic from Youtube, Facebook and Twitter.

6. Baidu.com

The Chinese internet search engine is next, as one of the world’s largest internet companies. It had 4.9 billion visits in December and 94% of this traffic came from China, followed by the US and Taiwan. The most popular categories are news and media publishers and animation and comics.

In December 2022, it was clear that people wanted to find out more about the French and Argentinian World Cup final with Messi and Mbappe scoring highly on the top keywords.

8. Yandex.ru

With Russia being one of the biggest countries in the world, it’s no surprise that its most popular search engine makes the list. There were 3.5 billion visits with an average duration of 9 minutes and 24 seconds. Some of the top topics included news and mail.

Founded in 1996, this old-timer comes in at number 9, offering the latest news coverage, email, live scores and video streaming.
