It’s no surprise that the world’s biggest search engine takes the number one spot, with 86 billion visits in December 2022. People spend an average of 10 minutes on the website, and our friends in the US are the top searchers, followed by India, Brazil and then, the UK.

The top category was video games, consoles and categories – as the gaming industry expands its reach worldwide – whilst computers and electronics, social media and programming and developer software also ranked highly.

Next up, the video streaming giant Youtube – which is also owned by Google for those who didn’t know – takes second place with 34.6 billion visits last month. The average duration spent on the website was 19 minutes 51 seconds. And again, gaming was the top category, whilst news was the top topic. The largest age group of visitors are 25-34-year-olds.

We all knew this was going to make the rankings, the biggest social media website in the world. It received 18.1 billion visits in December 2022, which was up 2.16% from the previous month.

With the easy-to-scan and scroll interface, users spend an average of just 9 minutes on Facebook, and the US, Vietnam and Poland were the top countries visiting the site.

The blue bird takes fourth place on the list, with 6.9 billion visits. Twitter has increasingly become a website where people can find news and discussion about current affairs, that’s why 20% of its referral traffic comes from news and media publishers.

Last month, more males visited the site than females, with an audience split of 67% and 33% and are most popular with 25-34-year-olds.

The picture-posting giant ranks 5th worldwide, with 6.3 billion visits at the end of last year. People jumped to an average of 10.77 pages whilst on the website and spent a mere 7 minutes and 44 seconds catching up on the latest content.

It also gets most of its traffic from Youtube, Facebook and Twitter.

The Chinese internet search engine is next, as one of the world’s largest internet companies. It had 4.9 billion visits in December and 94% of this traffic came from China, followed by the US and Taiwan. The most popular categories are news and media publishers and animation and comics.

Everyone’s familiar with the world’s free encyclopedia. Wikipedia received a total of 4.8 billion visits, with people flicking between an average of 3 pages each time. It gives searchers exactly what they are looking for, as they spend around 3 minutes and 52 seconds on the website. In December 2022, it was clear that people wanted to find out more about the French and Argentinian World Cup final with Messi and Mbappe scoring highly on the top keywords.

With Russia being one of the biggest countries in the world, it’s no surprise that its most popular search engine makes the list. There were 3.5 billion visits with an average duration of 9 minutes and 24 seconds. Some of the top topics included news and mail.

Founded in 1996, this old-timer comes in at number 9, offering the latest news coverage, email, live scores and video streaming. It received 3.3 billion visits last month and people scanned around 5 pages, with keywords ranging from yahoo mail, finance, and news before leaving the website. The US, Taiwan and Canada were the top countries using this website in December 2022.

And last but not least, we have a favourite of South and Central Americans, with its core audience being from Mexico, Chile and Colombia. Lectortmo is the go-to place for Manga fans with many books in Japanese and English. Last month, it gained 3.13 billion visits with an average duration of 16 minutes and 35 seconds.
