Construction begins to futureproof broadband in Thurnscoe, Harlington, Barnburgh, Bolton upon Dearne, and Goldthorpe

07 August 2023

UK telecommunication infrastructure provider Digital Infrastructure has commenced the major infrastructure project to build a faster broadband network in the areas of Thurnscoe, Harlington, Barnburgh, Bolton upon Dearne, and Goldthorpe — the latest phase of a targeted £100m private investment for better UK connectivity.

Once complete, approximately 9.7K residents of Thurnscoe and surrounding areas will be able to enjoy fit-for-the-future internet capabilities that deliver the guaranteed speeds people need now and for years to come.

Aiming to leave a positive legacy in society, construction utilises existing ducts, meaning there’s no need to dig up the area’s roads — something which is central to the firm’s strategy of adopting quicker and less disruptive build methods, in order to lower roll-out costs, increase efficiency, and minimise the environmental impact of the network deployment.

Once complete, the network will be operated by next-generation internet provider BeFibre, and it is expected that Thurnscoe and the surrounding areas will be broadband ready, by Autumn 2023.

Commenting on the rollout, Lionel Spencer, delivery and operations director at Digital Infrastructure said: We’re delighted to have begun the build phase of our network rollout in Thurnscoe and the surrounding areas in South Yorkshire. Digital Infrastructure continues to work at pace as we aim to provide our build areas with a future-proofed network, that will give the residents an option in these locations to avail themselves of Gigabit capable infrastructure which provides them with consistent speeds.”
